Villenueve no hero!
Villeneuve no hero
: "Local hero battles to a 3rd-place finish" (Gazette, Aug 30).
I object strenuously to describing Jacques Villeneuve as a "hero" simply because he drives fast.
Gimme a break! In spite of what far too many sports journalists think, very few professional athletes are heroes. They just happen to be good at what they do. Big deal! Most people are good at what they do.
If you're looking for a hero in the true sense of the word, look no further than our own former Alouette, Tony Proudfoot, a man who dealt with true difficulties with intelligence, grace, and courage. Now there's a true hero for you, an example to each and every one of us!
